Kithul Treacle โ Pure Ceylon Palm Syrup (Sri Lanka)
Couldn't load pickup availability
โ 100% pure kithul โ no added cane sugar
Genuine Sri Lankan kithul treacle (kithul pani), tapped from the kithul palm and slowly boiled to a rich, dark syrup โ farm-direct from Sri Lanka. Much "kithul treacle" sold cheaply is cut with cane sugar; ours is the real thing, nothing added.
Sri Lanka's Own Palm Syrup
Kithul treacle is one of Sri Lanka's most treasured traditional foods โ a natural syrup that barely exists anywhere else in the world. It's tapped from the flower of the kithul palm (Caryota urens, the fishtail palm), then slowly simmered down into a deep amber syrup with a rich, caramel-like flavour and gentle smoky, malty notes all its own. Think of it as Sri Lanka's answer to maple syrup or honey โ but with a character you won't find in either.
How to Enjoy It
- Curd & treacle: the classic Sri Lankan dessert โ drizzled generously over thick buffalo-milk curd or plain yoghurt. Unmissable.
- Pancakes, hoppers & waffles: use it exactly as you would maple syrup.
- Over ice cream & desserts: a caramel-rich topping for ice cream, puddings, and cakes.
- In drinks: stir into tea, coffee, or milk as a natural sweetener.
- Baking & cooking: swap in for honey, molasses, or golden syrup for a distinctive Sri Lankan depth.
- On toast, porridge & fruit: a simple, natural drizzle.
Taste & Character
Kithul treacle pours as a smooth, dark amber syrup. The flavour is rich and rounded โ caramel and toffee up front, with faint smoky, malty notes and a natural sweetness that's less sharp than white sugar. As a traditional, small-batch product, colour and thickness can vary slightly between batches; that's the sign of a genuine, unrefined syrup.
Why Ours Is the Real Thing
- 100% pure kithul โ no cane sugar, no glucose syrup, no additives. (Cheap "kithul treacle" is very often diluted โ ours isn't.)
- Traditionally tapped from the kithul palm and slow-boiled the old way.
- Farm-direct from Sri Lanka โ sourced straight from the source, not repackaged.
- Naturally vegan and gluten-free โ just one ingredient: kithul sap.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is kithul treacle?
Kithul treacle is a traditional Sri Lankan syrup made from the sap of the kithul palm (Caryota urens), slowly boiled down into a rich, dark, caramel-like sweetener. It's a beloved part of Sri Lankan food culture and is produced almost nowhere else.
What does it taste like?
Rich and caramel-like, with gentle smoky, malty notes and a rounded natural sweetness โ softer than refined sugar. It's often compared to maple syrup or honey, but has its own distinctive character.
How is it different from maple syrup or honey?
It comes from a different source โ the kithul palm, rather than maple trees or bees โ and carries a deeper, more caramel-and-malt flavour. It's vegan (unlike honey) and uniquely Sri Lankan.
Is it pure, or mixed with sugar?
Ours is 100% pure kithul with nothing added. This matters: a lot of cheaply sold "kithul treacle" is cut with cane sugar or glucose syrup to lower the cost. We sell the genuine article.
How should I use it?
Classically, over curd or yoghurt ("curd and treacle"). Also wonderful on pancakes, hoppers, waffles, ice cream, and porridge, stirred into drinks, or used in baking wherever you'd use honey or maple syrup.
Is it vegan and gluten-free?
Yes โ it's a single-ingredient plant syrup (kithul sap), naturally vegan and gluten-free, with no artificial additives.
How do I store it?
Keep it in a cool, dry place, tightly sealed. Refrigeration isn't required but helps once opened. If it crystallises a little over time, warm the jar gently to loosen it.

from 3552 reviewsI received my order and am very pleased with it, and the added gift that came with. I do apologize about my last 1 star review, I feel foolish about it. Thank you all very much for the Lotus.
First trimester pregnancy and this has been a lifesaver. Strong enough to actually help.
Light caffeine lift, but the soursop somehow softens the edge. Easy to drink.
I'd seen butterfly pea tea on social media for years โ the colour-changing trick, the dramatic indigo brew, the way it shifts to pink with citrus โ but never tried a really good one until this Ceylon blend. Opening the bag the first thing you notice is that the ingredients are visibly whole โ recognisable hibiscus pieces, rose petals, dried butterfly pea flowers themselves. Not dust, not powder. The brew is the deepest indigo blue and a single squeeze of lemon turns the cup pink in seconds. The flavour is soft and floral with a gentle hibiscus tang and a clean rose lift. Caffeine-free, full of antioxidants, and genuinely calming to drink. It has become a ritual โ afternoon cup, watching the colour develop, slow sips. One of the more thoughtful purchases I've made in a long time.
Most flavoured greens are either too sweet or taste artificial โ soursop is hard to fake and easy to overdo. This blend gets it right. The Ceylon green tea base is clean and slightly grassy, and the soursop comes through as a delicate creamy-fruity aromatic on top. Beautifully done and genuinely refreshing.

Cold brewed overnight and it's incredible. Subtle fruit, smooth green tea finish.
This is my morning cup now. Gentle caffeine, lovely flavour, genuinely good for me.
Even my husband who normally hates herbal tea drinks this one. The green tea base helps.
Soft, smooth, fragrant. A pleasure morning or afternoon.
Brews clean even with a slightly long steep. A forgiving tea, which I appreciate.

I started drinking this six months ago after a friend in Colombo recommended it for general wellness. Two cups a day โ one in the morning instead of coffee, one early afternoon. The flavour is what got me to keep going: a clean Ceylon green tea base with a soft creamy tropical lift from the real soursop leaf. Smooth, never bitter when brewed properly, with a gentle caffeine lift that doesn't shake me. Over the months I've noticed three things โ my afternoon energy crashes have stopped, my digestion is more settled, and my skin looks clearer. I'm not making medical claims but I am saying I'll keep drinking it. The leaf quality is clearly excellent โ visible whole leaves, recognisable soursop pieces, no dust or twigs.
Try it cold. I steep a heaped tablespoon in cold filtered water in the fridge overnight, strain in the morning, serve over ice. Genuinely incredible โ smooth, slightly sweet from the soursop, never bitter. My summer drink of choice now.
Hint of fruit, smooth green tea body, no bitterness when brewed properly.
